Flin Flon, A-OK (Teen Beat)
Mark Robinson’s newest band presents the same shimmery clean guitars and rhythms that Unrest and Air Miami did. As the liner notes explain, extra large gaps have been left between songs so that each song is viewed as a separate piece of music and not part of an album as a whole. Even without that note, the songs stand out.
The production is so clean, the playing so nice and precise, the sound so intelligent that flin flon make indie-pop music that avoids the description, ‘cute’ and sets the bar a little higher for everyone else.
This may seem like an accomplishment when heard in the context of their contemporaries, but for Mark Robinson it’s par for the course.
