I meant to compare the contract job to the line in Showgirls where the evil strip-club owner says to the new girl, “First, I get you used to the money; then I make you swallow.” That’s sort of what temp jobs are like. There isn’t enough money with which to live it up, but I’ve noticed that the rates are generally in the range where you have to put in a 40-hour week to make anything. It’s just enough. And if you’re not careful, it is enough to get used to. And that’s fine for people who want that. I don’t. So I feel like I’m blowing a lot of time here when they could pay me the same amount and I could only work half the hours.
