Creeping Cruds

The Creeping Cruds and Halloween go together like chocolate and peanut butter. Their brief, aggressive tunes have plenty of shout-along chorus about “eating the living” and “M-U-R-D-E-R” but they’ve also got plenty of sweet guitar licks that land just on the tasteful side of shredding. In short, this Nashville-based horror-punk band owes as much to the Misfits as they do to ZZ Top. All The Rage got together with Jeano Roid, one of the Cruds’ two axe-murderers, to talk scary stuff.

ATR: WHAT MAKES A GREAT HALLOWEEN PARTY?
JEANO ROID: The Creeping Cruds of course! The greatest Halloween party was the one Happy Days where Ritchie was at the Halloween party in this old creepy house and his friends pulled the headless woman in the closet gag on him, so I’d say some kinda gag that scares the heck outta everyone is always essential…

ATR: WHAT’S THE SCARIEST COSTUME EVER WORN BY A CREEPING CRUD?
JR: [Crud’s bassist] Manthon’s “mummy in long underwear & Chuck Taylors” was pretty damn frightening!

ATR: WHAT ARE THE CRUDS PLANS FOR HALLOWEEN THIS YEAR?
JR: Word is we just might celebrate the year’s greatest holiday by posting the entire new record online for free for 24 hours – so everyone has a chance at getting The Creeping Cruds. Halloween is my wedding anniversary and it’s long been the ritual to stay home on Halloween with the wife and watch classic horror and scare the living hell out of the neighborhood kids…

ATR: DO THE CRUDS SHARE ANY FAVORITE ZOMBIE MOVIES?
JR: I’m sure Night of the Living Dead is the consensus. That movie can’t be beat. Ziggy McNasty is a Texas Chainsaw guy but that movie is a little short on zombies…

ATR:YOUR CD HAS GOTTEN SOME GREAT REVIEWS? HAS THIS LED TO ANY LABEL INTEREST?
JR: Yes, it’s very pleasing to read all the great reviews. Once Rue Morgue Magazine featured the CD and gave it 5 out of 5 skulls we immediately started selling lots and lots of CDs all over the world. The great reviews that followed didn’t hurt either. We wanna put out CD number two next year and the time is right if any of you big-wigs are reading this, Har!

ATR: WHAT ARE THE CRUDS’ POST HALLOWEEN PLANS?
JR: Most importantly to write a batch of new great horror Rock. We have added some new stuff to the set recently like “Chainsaw Au Go Go” and “Kicked Dracula’s Ass” which have gone over pretty well. Early next year, start on the next CD. I think just keeping the line-up intact as is and doing what we do already is the plan for the Cruds!

The Creeping Cruds play the Springwater on November 2nd with Gein and The Grave Robbers. You can find out about their CD on their website: www.creepingcruds.com.
