The Science of Sleep

I saw Michel Gondry’s The Science of Sleep earlier this week. It was… eh. It was really interesting to watch but because of its surrealistic nature, it didn’t really draw me in. It’s worth a viewing because it’s not something you’ve ever seen before. And the writing is very clever. Extremely clever. E.g. the surname of the main character is “Miroux” — a pun on the name of Joan Miro, noted Spanish surrealist. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg of clever writing which tosses around puns and jokes in three languages.

And though I’d watch it again just for the language, at the end of the day, I’m a dullard who likes plot and realism, so it’s not something I’d keep in my permanent collection. So take my review with a healthy grain of salt.
