I saw Prometheus and Moonrise Kingdom last weekend
Last Friday (not last night), I saw Prometheus. I enjoyed it a whole lot. It looked awesome. It got crazy and then it just stayed crazy. I loved the other world feel that they created. There were some missing pieces, sure. But overall it kept me enthralled.
Then Sunday, I saw Moonrise Kingdom. That world really pulled me in. I think it might be Wes Anderson’s best movie. If it weren’t for the nostalgia I have for Rushmore and The Royal Tennenbaums, I wouldn’t hedge with that assessment. In Kingdom, Anderson has included all his usual lovely little details but at the center it has a real heart and great characters that I cared for. In some of his movies, pathos appears suddenly, unearned. In Moonrise Kingdom, I was on Suzy and Sam’s side the entire time.
