For the past 15 years, I’ve worked on the web in some fashion as a developer or content creator. For the past 5 years, I’ve been taking notes and writing essays about the work I’ve participated in and how I think it can be done better. When I quit my full-time content manager job in March, I sat down to write a book on the theme of doing better work.

Though the book comes out of my work in web businesses, it’s applicable to so many of our modern workplaces where we suffer through pointless meetings and paperwork that complicates our lives and the lives of our customers. In, I open up jobs that produce bad work and write simple ideas to improve it. Each chapter is a short essay that can be read in a single sitting. The book doesn’t ever become so technical that it can’t be understood by those outside web businesses. The examples in it are examples we find in every job: the micro-managers and impatient executives, the rushed deadlines and long-hours.
