Last week’s comic book loot

Ugh, I’m a week behind posting this. I apologize. I haven’t picked up comics this week. No Batgirl spoilers!

Thor #1

I loved Thor #1. I’ve never been a Thor reader so if Marvel re-casting some heroes is a blatant ploy to lure readers, it’s working on me. The big reason is that I need a way to get into a comic book, a hook you know. Thor #1 offers a pretty easy hook but the good news is that the tension in the story is great and the art is wonderful. The new female Thor only appears at the end of the book so we see no action from her. I will see where this goes.

Captain America #25

Captain America #25

See above for luring curious readers. Captain America #25, on the other hand, didn’t really do anything for me. I’m not a big “team” guy and this issue had like every damn Avenger there ever was. The weirdest thing for me is that Sam Wilson is more like Falcon America. He still has the wings. The art was solid and the writing was good but I just didn’t care that much. It’s the Avengers, the cops of Marvel’s universe.

Batman Superman #14

Batman Superman #14

Man, I haven’t been paying attention to Batman / Superman but I grabbed ish #14 cause Selina was on the cover. I don’t know when this new arc of them having amnesia started (must have been recent) but I LOVE IT. The art is AMAZING as well. Man, I’m glad I picked this up.

Multiversity Society of Superheroes #1

Society of Superheroes #1

You know, Grant Morrison’s Multiversity is gonna be weird — it’s sci-fi, it’s superheroes, it’s philosophical. It’s a great mix of high and low brow. I’ve picked up the Multiversity title and now this spin-off. I liked Society of Superheroes better than the main title. The art is less of the bold, bright superhero colors and the story more or less stays centered on one group of characters. I don’t know how long I’ll hang in there for Multiversity but I’ll see where it leads.
