The oral history of “Yacht Rock”

In 2005, I thought “Yacht Rock” was pretty much the reason the internet had been invented. But the digital age is crueler to low-resolution video than other media and it’s been hard to go back and appreciate what was the funniest riff on VH1’s endless parade of Behind the Musics ever created. Rolling Stone collected the oral history from the creators. I wasn’t going to post about it until I hit this quote which landed so close to home:

I turned 30 right before we started doing the series, and I thought, well, this is a nice round number. What do 30-year-olds do? I feel like it’s time I get into Steely Dan. I bought most of the catalogue and was like, This is my new identity. I’m gonna unwind, start listening to Steely Dan, and leave parties early.
